RFID
- Can provide large amounts of information

- Virtually no labour cost to read the RFID tag
- Can read and write information from tag
- Long read/write range
- Radiowaves can pass through obstructions between tag and transponder
- Costly but efficient
- Does not get damaged easily
Barcodes
- Barcodes only provide limited information

- Labor cost of approximately 7 cents per scan
- Short range range
- Requires line-of-sight (barcode and barcode reader)
- Cheap but not cost effective
- Can be damage very easily
